Hope and unity: how help changed a family’s fate after the flood

Today we share an incredible story of hope and unity that unfolded in Lower Austria. In mid-September 2023, massive rains led to a devastating flood that affected a large number of residents in the region. One of those affected was the family of Kenana Musaefendic from the municipality of Tulbing. For them, it was a truly catastrophic blow: the winds raised the water level to waist height, destroying many things in their brand-new home, which they had moved into just two years earlier. However, despite the grief, it is precisely in such moments that the power of human kindness reveals itself.

After Kenana appeared on the ORF program “Aktuell nach eins,” the editorial office received an anonymous call. On the other end of the line was a member of one of the well-known business families of Upper Austria, who was deeply moved by the fate of the Musaefendic family. He expressed a desire to donate 100,000 euros to them. The question inevitably arises: how can such a gesture change the lives of people who find themselves in a difficult situation? For Kenana, this support became more than just financial assistance; it became a symbol of hope.

The total damage to the family’s home amounts to 190,000 euros, and already one can see how the community is rallying around those affected. Of this amount, 100,000 euros came from the anonymous donation, and 60,000 euros from the state. However, the family still needs to raise 30,000 euros on their own. This story underscores once again how important it is to support each other in difficult times. It reminds us that even in the darkest moments, one can always find light.
