For example, an Austrian caught in Italy with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit will lose their license not only in Italy but also in Austria. This initiative is designed to improve road safety and coincides with sobering statistics: in 2021, the EU recorded over 20,000 fatalities from road traffic accidents.

Thus, the new rules will enable more effective control of street safety and ensure the EU-wide exchange of information on violations. It is important to note that license suspension will apply not only for extreme speeding but also for lesser offenses — exceeding the limit by more than 30 km/h in urban areas and over 50 km/h outside them.
