Vienna Loses Live Music: Open-Air Concerts Canceled Until 2026

In 2025, Vienna was set to be a hub of musical events. But all planned open-air concerts at Schönbrunn Palace have been canceled, shocking residents and tourists alike.

The reason lies in new noise protection legislation taking effect in 2025. Organizers, including Show Factory, faced unacceptable fines for noise level violations in previous years and made the difficult decision to cancel.

Show Factory Managing Director Dieter Semmelmann expressed disappointment, noting the team had drawn over 150,000 visitors in the past four years. “We are proud of our work, but under the new conditions, we cannot guarantee the necessary quality,” he said.

All purchased tickets can be refunded at points of sale. Artists, organizers, and audiences all suffer from this cancellation. “We are looking for ways to cooperate with the city and other organizers to reopen Schönbrunn’s doors to music,” Semmelmann added.

Organizers hope to resume events in 2026.
